A New Medium CEO, A New Day?

Hope springs eternal for all those who are not jaded yet by Medium

I’ve been off Medium for a while. It got to the point I was tired of having to curate my feed constantly from those “I make $1,412.87 weekly on Medium” BS fodder for the fools. Not to mention the low quality of stories that were showing up in my feed.

Oh sure, I know you can adjust your feed to see fewer of certain kinds of articles. It never worked for me. Those stories are ubiquitous to Medium, unfortunately.

But I got up this morning and decided to use my Medium phone app to scan the latest headlines. JJ Pryor popped up first in my feed letting us all know that Ev is gone and Tony is in and why he’s good with that.

Will it be a good change for a change?

I like to read. I saw there were 191 comments on Coach Tony’s post. I got through about 1/3 of them before they got repetitive. But it was interesting to see the new CEO actually connecting and replying to the commenters!

He’s got a lot on his plate no doubt but he seems up for the challenge. I was considering making my own comment on the growing thread but decided to write out my observations in this post instead. See, it’s already working. I am writing again on Medium after my hiatus of several months.

Put All Those “Make Money on Medium” Articles/Posts in a Bucket!

If Medium could just CONTAIN those types of posts to one dedicated section and never allow those articles to pop up in anybody’s feed again, we’d all be better off.

Seriously. If you want to read that stuff, you’ll know where to easily find it. The same goes for if you want to write that stuff. Put yourself in the corner.

Meanwhile, let everybody else who wants to expand their own writing creativity in a million directions get down to the business of writing and reading.

People want to be read. They want a solid following. They want to know people like their unique perspectives. And, as a bonus, they want to earn more than pennies for it. But how do you fix the current stream?

Hundreds, if not thousands, of writers on Medium have ideas for what they consider positive change (I do too) but what will actually get implemented remains to be seen.

We can only continue to roll with the changes as we bobble along like jetsam and flotsam in a littered sea of used plastic looking for a clear stream to guide us to a new promised land.

I have hope that day will come.
