What can you do to stand out in a crowded market of millions of bloggers, writers, and content creators on the web?

There are a lot of things you can do but we’ll just focus on the skyscraper technique topic as started by Brian Dean of Backlinko.

Look at the photo above. What buildings stand out first? The taller ones. The ones that are high above others sitting crowded on lower levels. This image depicts the concept behind the skyscraper technique which is to write better content than what already exists out there regardless of the industry or niche.

You can start with a long-tail keyword search for your topic. Discover which sites are ranking in the top ten on Google. Scan their content to look for similarities as well as information that might be missing on the topic.

Sounds simple enough but it takes some really good writing to pull it off. You want to make sure you don’t plagiarize any site of course, but yet you need to speak to the topic in a unique way that will rank higher than the others. Your new best-of-best content will be so good that others will want to link to it.

This backlinking will help push your DA (domain authority) up provided they are not spammy links. (We’ll cover spammy links and how to disavow them in another post) You want to reach out to reputable site owners blogging about your topic and ask for the backlink.

Get moving on up! Publish your polished piece of writing. Make sure you have added clean, clear compelling images. Go for being better than the best! Watch as Google ranks your piece in that coveted top ten first search page and your traffic stats soar.
